Hi there. I'm new to the whole rig building thing so I thought I'd double check with you helpful expert types to make sure I'm not going to end up with an expensive paperweight.
I'll be using this rig primarily for gaming and painting/editing/rendering in Photoshop. I'm also interested in hosting a small bot farm while I'm away from the computer.
Here are the specs (and prices in NZD):
CPU: $292 Intel i5 2500k 3.3GHz (overclocked to ~4.2GHz?)
Motherboard: $200 Asus P8P67 Pro
GPU: $217 Asus GeForce ENGTX550Ti TOP 1GB (GeForce 550Ti 1GB)
Memory: $105 Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600MHz CL9 8GB (2x4GB)
Storage: $90 Samsung SpinPoint F3 32MB Cache 1TB
PSU: $87 Antec Neo ECO 620W
Case: $76 Antec 300
Total: $1067 ($885 USD)
I'm not huge on overclocking. I hear Asus' one click autoclock feature thing is pretty good so I'll probably just be using that. Also, I know that the non-B3 versions of the Asus P8P67 Pro have issues with their 3GB/s SATA ports, but I doubt I'll ever need more than the two 6GB/s ports anyway. I do plan on upgrading along the line, but storage isn't a huge issue for me.
I've pretty much hit my budget limit so if I'm going to upgrade a component, I'll have to downgrade something else too.
I think the main thing I'm asking is are any these parts are incompatible, bad value, or overkill for what I intend to use the rig for? Any feedback is appreciated though
