Hi! On january i bought a Geforce gtx 740 GPU for my pc and a 500w psu to feed it. After installing both things i got a greenish screen with the hp logo and the message "press esc to enter setup". I did some researc and found out that i needed UEFI bios to support that GPU. There werent any updates on the hp page for the bios so i realized i needed a new MOBO. I m new at this but i think i need a new MOBO. My budget is low but i would like to buy a cpu (preferably from amd because of the price) with a motherboard that has UEFI bios that fits in a HP case. Any recomendations? Thanks! (sorry for my english).

Hi. Its an older version of HP ENVY h8-1414. Im planning on buying a new cpu, and using the same RAM that came with the hp pc. For both things, the cpu and the mobo, would like to spend 200 dlls. Thanks for your quick replies.

That case is a Micro ATX case...

and the RAM is:

•Type of Memory (RAM): DDR3 SDRAM

They used different manufactures so you may have to read the Manufacture and Model numbers off of the side of one of the RAM modules for us.

If you are not looking at using the current CPU are you looking for an AMD or an INTEL? The AMDs are cheaper. If you are not planning on getting a better graphics card then I would go with an AMD APU which will give you decent graphics unless you are planning on running a 4K monitor or a multi monitor configuration.

I think this will work for you...

[UPDATE Sorry bad link]

or without APU since you have a graphics card...

Yes! Thats the hp case that i have. Im planning on going with an AMD CPU because of the price. The card that im going to use is the geforce GTX 740 4GB.

And about the UEFI support, i did some research and asked the evga manufecturer of the graphics card and they said that my board is not compatible with the card that i bought. And the resason they gave me is that its an old bios and is recomended that i have UEFI bios. HP doesnt support updates on that bios after they starte manufacturing pcs with windows 8 preloaded (mine came with win 7).
