Bug with Balor Lord? - Chapter 3

Hello,

I'm in Chapter 3 of the original campaign for NWN - looking for the
words of power. I have broken all 3 wards and I'm trying to kill the Balor
that guards the word. Only thing is, he's not there anymore?? Our first
encounter, I took him down to injured status and used the stone of recall to
retrieve Linu. We rested up and went back only to find an empty chamber with
no way to get into the alter?

This has happened to me before & I'm wondering if it is a bug?? Is there an
easy way to fix it?
I'm playing version 1.62.

Also, is there some sort of enchantment level to be able to do damage on the
Balor (+2 or +3 weapons)?

It sounds like a bug. If it appears again, you may work around it by
spawning in the key for the altar with the console command

dm_spawnitem m3q2f_balorkey (the balor hold this key and drops it when
dead).

AFAIK you will probably find some useable weapons among the random trasure
stuff. If not, the merchant in Beorunna's Well sells some (if you can afford
them).
