Hi People!

I'm running a build with a

Nvidia 980 GTX ASUS
20 GB Ram
Motherboard: MSI 970a-g46
CPU AMD FX-4130
Power Supply: Corsair VS650

2x 1TB WD harddisk NAS
1x Samsung 120 gb SSD

I need to un-bottleneck my 980. Whats the best to change in this specific case?

Looking forward to an answer 😉

Thanks for a real quick answer.

I'm looking more to an i7 Skylake.
And why would i choose that motherboard? Whats the + points on it?

Price may range to abt 300-400 euro.

This is probably the best low cost option for you. Using an i7 isn't necessary for gaming and will cost quite a bit more. The motherboard is another low cost option if you're not going to overclock and need a lot of SATA and USB ports, RAID, etc. Your PSU is poor quality and not really one I would recommend for a gaming rig.

Here's a different option using a Xeon, which is essentially an i7 without the integrated graphics. You can re use your existing RAM.

Thanks again for your responds.

I'm not going for a low budget one, but whenever possible, why not push the price more down if you know what i mean.
Eitherway, i'm wondering why i'd need a new powersupply. will the Corsair 650VS not do?
Considering it gives 650w to the 550 you are suggesting.

The i7 from Xeon without the intergrated graphics, does that mean the rig wont work w/o the GPU?
If so, that would be totally fine right?

Quick note. I might go a SLI option in the future. I noticed the Motherboard you suggested doesnt support that.
Other options available?

Looking forward to your answer.

Yes. Used a different mothboard for SLI below. As far as the power supply, the 550 is more than enough for a GTX 980. The problem with the VS series is that they are poor quality and use cheap components. In a gaming system with a a powerful GPU, they are under more stress which causes them to run hotter and fail sooner. Also, power supplies with tighter voltage regulation are easier on your other components.

Much appreciated for your advice.

Hi BadActor.

A Friend told, why would you take a Server CPU as in the Xeon, above a i5 4th or 6th gen? Price may vary not too much and its still wide in your spending range.
I bet you have a sufficient answer for that.
Besides that, I was told: Why go to intel? AMD should work fine.

Hows: MSI B85-G43 Gaming, socket 1150 moederbord
With a intel i5 Haswell ? I suppose thats 4th gen correct?
CrossFire should run fine for the GTX 980, correct?

Regards!
