Hi,

My 6 year old PC finally needs an upgrade. I'm aware of the GPU issues but let's put that to one side!

Usage: 1440p gaming, some video editing and some streaming.
Would like: Very quiet when I'm browsing the web etc, but not as fussed on noise when gaming.

I tend to over spec slightly as

a) it feels a bit more futureproof and
b) honestly I just like having bigger numbers! (hence perhaps going a bit overboard on RAM and SSD?)

As you will see, I've already got a processor (just found one at a steal price!) and intend to re-use my existing CPU cooler, PSU and fans (at least fo now) unless someone can talk me out of it.

Ideally I would like to get it looking nice inside too, something I've never thought about or dealt with before.

Questions:

1 - Do the parts work together? Am I missing something dumb here?
2- What advise is there on accessories I need to get it looking nice (I'm guessing white cables, and different fans..)

Solution
Change that RAM for 2x16GB 3600MHz CL16. You might not be able to use the XMP profile with 4 sticks to get the advertised speed. More stress on the memory controller with 4 sticks. The 16GB stick are usually Dual Rank. So 4x8GB single rank = 2x16GB Dual Rank. No need for the 4 sticks.

I'd get something like this instead.

Where did you get a 5800X for £308? Do they have any more for sale?

Lovely thanks for the feedback guys, good to know I'm on track. One thing Partpicker throws up is "Corsair 5000D AIRFLOW ATX Mid Tower Case has a front panel USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A port, but the Asus ROG STRIX B550-A GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard does not have sufficient USB 3.2 Gen 1 headers. The case USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A port will not be usable. " does this mean my front USB won't work?

Oh, maybe a small adjustment. A 2x16GB kit would be easier on the CPU. But if you like the look of fully populated memory slots, also good.

Oh really? I read somewhere that 4 sticks would be faster than 2, that's the only reason!

Why the change in motherboard? There was far too many varities for me to keep track, what does the F offer?

Thats probably a USB c port that requires a motherboard header

Speed should be nearly the same, if not functionally identical. Two sticks is just less power and less noise for the memory controller, so temperatures will be slightly better inside the CPU and the gap between the memory helps them stay cool.

Command rates and other stuff might also change between 2 and 4 stick configurations.
