Hi
I am doing a quick research for a new build that is meant mostly for gaming.
The starting point for this build is my RTX3060ti which i already own.
The components here are supposed to be functional for a good gaming experience and be compatible with eachother.
I am mostly concerned with general compatabilty, and also for best\good value for money for the main components (cpu, motherboard, etc.)
Any tips or feedback for improvement would be welcome.

I assume you already have the 500GB 980 Pro?

I don't see much sense in getting a 1TB 990 Pro unless you plan a lot of serious file transfers. I would go for a 2TB SSD with dram cache, PCIe 3.0 or 4.0 for mostly gaming.

Motherboard seems a little expensive. Any particular reasoning behind that choice? Available at Amazon for $200

only reasoning for getting two ssd drives is for having a smaller dedicated ssd for OS, i gather you suggest this is unnecessary?
what SSD would you recommend instead?

as for the motherboard, no particular reasoning behind that choice, simply need a good MB that would be up to par with the GPU and CPU combo

In that case, I agree, a single 2TB SSD is better suited, nothing wrong with the 990 Pro, though there are cheaper drives. You have a limited number of M.2 slots, no need to go for smaller drives. When you run out of space you can get another 2TB or even 4TB drive rather than having the hassle of replacing smaller drives.

Well don't overpay for that board. It is fine at $200.

Might also recommend DDR5 6000 CL30 as a better middle ground memory speed to target. Also 6400 CL32 that is quite often reasonably priced.

Thanks for the helpful tips

I get your explenation regarding the SSD choice, will find a single 2TB SSD instead.
I will also look at RAM alternatives according to your suggestions.

other than that, does this build seem fine to you? any other tips?

Might want to double check the number of fans you will end up with. Not much beyond that.

There are cheaper PSUs, but the RM750x is a good choice for a mid-range build. As long as you don't intend to drop a 450W GPU in there.

There are alternative chassis, but then you really would want to change the PSU (connectors are on the side) But I tend not to make alternate suggestions as long as the case has decent airflow.

I personally like having a separate drive for OS, and one for games. Frankly you have a lot of overspending going on in this build, that hinders potential performance for the same money.

I looked yesterday for someone, cheapest with flashback is $160, B760 board. Cheapest DDR4 with flashback is $215 which goes to show you where the price priorities are on the lower end.

Z790 for $200 is fine. Aorus Elite AX also has it, in case you wanted to get a 14th gen chip. 14700K does have 4 more e-cores and the cache to go with them.

Here's a few suggested changes to have a look at. The 120mm fan goes inside the back of this case for a exhaust fan.

If you don't mind going with DDR4 RAM, you can grab a much cheaper previous gen z690 board. The AsRock PG Riptide is as low as $125
Feature-wise, there is little the Gaming X can offer that's superior. In fact the Gaming X is kinda terrible. I'd take the Aorus Elite X WiFi7. Or you know, the UD AC ;)
I'm not really sure what you're trying to pay for here.

With DDR5, like @Eximo said, 6000 CL30 or 6400 CL32 is the ram to have.

I don't disagree with that. From stuff I've seen there's not a lot of difference with ddr4 3600 vs some of the ddr5.
It will be maybe 4-5 years before DDR4 is seriously outdated. Maybe even longer. One of my PCs has DDR3 ram, and ram is not what's holding it back (it's a gen 3 i5 3750K. Nice but old now)

But there's nothing wrong with going with DDR5, provided latency is kept to 32 (if gaming matters). It's more of a question of getting the right motherboard. NVMe gen 5 support is practically worthless, but it will add cost.

Asrock Z690 Extreme is a DDR4 board, with Bios Flashback, for $130. If I was building an Intel rig, with DDR4, that would be the board I would pick. Going DDR4 route, with said board would allow for a 14700k, and 64gb ram. You wouldn't need to worry about a ram upgrade, for the life of the system.

That cpu might do better with a 360 AIO.

Thanks
this is looking like a good direction for me.

I am limited to a certain retailer that does not have all of the components above, so i made a new list based on your suggestion, with the cpu and motherboard you suggested.
I am fine with paying a little extra as long as those changes are still in line with the general direction of the build you suggested.
components changed are:
* cpu cooler
* RAM
* SSD
* PSU
* Case
