Hi All, I'm just getting into flight simulations and am going to build my setup. This is what I'm thinking of and would appreciate any suggestions/modifications.
ASUS ROG Strix Z-390-e MB, Intel i7-8600K, MSI GeForce GTX 1070, Noctura NH-C14S cooler, EVGA SuperNova 650W psu, G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8GB DDR4 RAM, WD Blue 1TB HDD, Corsair 450D case.
Thank you !

What is your budget? I would probably recommend a Ryzen 2600, or 2700, with a B450 board, and use the savings on a better graphics card. The rtx 2060 should be out, in stores, soon, and is faster, than a 1070, for not much more money. Also, you are going to want an SSD.

Thanks for the reply. I omitted the Samsung SATA III 512GB SSD. Looks like the rtx 2060 is pretty close in price to the 1070...I'll make the change in my build, Thanks!

Sorry, I meant i5-8600K and forgot to include the Samsung SATA III 512GB SSD.. If I went with the 9600K would I need to go to Liquid Cooling?

I live in Florida, USA. Been mostly pricing components online at Newegg.

Hey sauce boss! I’m a fellow DCS pilot (beginning, an F-15 is totally different from the Cessna I fly) and I can totally help. What monitor(s) do you have? I like having a 1440p monitor or higher (helps me see targets farther off) at least 75 Hz, so I’d recommend something like that. The 1070 will work perfectly, but I’d recommend a ryzen system over an intel one. Here’s a little parts list I assembled:

Budget around $1500 US. As another suggested, I'm now looking at an MSI RTX2070 gpu.

Solution

So, why do you guys recommend AMD over Intel? I'm open to getting the best bang for the buck, but I don't know what the comparison is between the two.

But, is the 2600 better than the i5-8600K?

Sorry, I also have this cooler in my build: Noctura NH-C14S cooler

Thank you, I really appreciate your input. I'm looking forward to getting it all together, as it's my first build.

After reading everyones input, this is what I've come up with for a build. Please let me know if I've missed anything. I'm mainly going to be running DCS and FSX.

That SSD price is a bit crazy, for a SATA drive. The 970 evo is faster, and cheaper. Don't need the Arctic Silver 5. The cooler supplied stuff is plenty good enough. You can get faster 3000 ram, for less.

With some tweaks, and slightly more money, you can step up to a 2080, going with an R5 2600.

I was looking at the M.2-2280 SSD but thought they were more expensive than the 2.5" SSD and wouldn't be worth it for my purposes, but I was wrong. I'll make that switch. I do not belong to Newegg Business, so I'm stuck with retail prices.

I am just researching a build for DCS and all of the current players I chatted with are telling me not to consider anything less than 32 GB of memory (and more is better) and an SSD is a requirement. The 2080 is good but even that will get pushed to its limits.

I like this setup with some minor changes. A 1 TB SSD. 32 GB memory (a hard drive is way too slow) and upgradeable. Some are running 64 GB Ram DDR4 and saying it is not too much.

Be curious if anyone has got theirs up and running. I got to demo the F-18 DCS module on a six month old machine with a Rift VR and it was spectacular. There is nothing like it as far as flight simulation goes in the private sector. THe newer headsets with higher resolution are coming out now. I just got emailed on the new Rift.
