Hi everyone, I need your help. I want to build my own PC and use it as a "mini-server" for running different Linux VM Machines for tests and educations.

Any advice for motherboard, power supply, ... to install in a Corsair 2000D Airflow?

Approximate Purchase Date: 22.02.2024

Budget Range: approx 500 Euros

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Running Linux virtual machines for educational purposes / Running Trunas CORE/SCALE as a Docker Container

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: CPU, mobo, RAM, Storage, Power Supply

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: alternate.de

Location: Bern, Switzerland

Parts Preferences: no preferences

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: not relevant

Additional Comments: I will use XCP-NG, if possible quiet components

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: no upgrade, I want to build a new PC

I made the changes. I hope it's ok now

Consider each VM as a whole PC.

What amount of RAM will each need?

Minimum, 8GB. So, running 2 of them...that is 16GB right off the top.
Leaving 16GB for the host.

Adding a 3rd simultaneous VM...now you're starving the host of its own RAM.

I've personally had several instances of the VMs using 20-24GB.
I don't think I'll start more than 2 VMs at the same time.

many thanks for your support! :)

Yes, I read that.

I should have been more clear.

What software might be running?

Running just the Linux OS to learn it is one thing. Minimal resources needed.
Running Linux to learn the vagaries of AutoCAD or Blender is quite different.
Sorry, you have right...
I will run XCP-NG and from there start Linux Machines (Ubuntu) and learn how Docker, Kubernetes, etc. works..
If everything works fine I'll install Truenas SCALE and use it as my main Storage
