So the end of last year I was looking to upgrade my PC of 7 years. I was looking at the 6850K and 6900K Intel chips. In mid December my contract was not extended and lost my job. So the new PC was put on hold.
End of Jan and I got a new job and started to look at getting the new PC. But then I heard about Ryzen. I was always an AMD back in the days and every PC I built prior to my current one was an AMD. Even my current GPU is AMD, it's a Radeon HD 5970, because of the eye infinity.
So now I waiting for the Ryzen to be released.
Knowing I was looking at the 6850K which was about $570, the top AMD Ryzen 1800X is only 499. And it is equivalent to the 6900K, which cost about $1100.

So I was planning to wait till the Ryzen is release and check out the reviews.
But I'm seeing plenty of leaked items, but they are comparing the 1700X to the 6900K and are saying this is equivalent or even better than the 6900K. And it costs about $390.

So my question is, do you think there will be that much of a difference between the 1700X and the 1800X Ryzen chip. I could save about $110 if I get the 1700X and it performs as people say it is.

AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Base 3.6Ghz, Turbo 4.0Ghz $499
AMD Ryzen 7 1700X Base 3.4Ghz, Turbo 3.8Ghz $389

Thanks
Joe

A lot depends on exactly what you're going to do with it. Just from a math point of view (and we'll use their top turbo mode):

1800x = 4.0 ghz @ $500
1700x = 3.8 ghz @ $390

So - you're getting 200mhz (+5% performance) for $110 more (+22%). That doesn't make financial sense in that regard. Besides, lets be clear about it, you could get a better big-air cooler for about $40.00 (+10%) and overclock the 1700x because they're all unlocked multipliers. I'm willing to bet that you could easily hit 4.0ghz for the cost of a good cooler IF you get either the X or B motherboards.

Overall, I'm going to be looking very hard at a good B motherboard (allowing OC's) and possibly the 1600x (hex core) with my big-air cooler.

Speaking of motherboards. I was planning on the X370.
So far I'm looking at the Asrock X370. The reason I'm looking at this mobo is it offers 2 M.2 slots.
In my prior build I was going with a Sumsun 960 Pro 512Gb NVMe SSD.
Seeing that I'm already saving more money if I go Ryzen on the CPU, and MOBO I'm thinking of getting 2 Samsung 960 Pro's, both 512Gb
