Good afternoon,
Intro
Recently I have been helping my brother with his computer. It has been having issues now since the day it was built and even as someone who has built many computers and servers over time I am really struggling to get a grip on how to fix the issues we are facing.
Issues
The first issue we had with the pc after building it was the RAM. after building the ram would only work if it was one ram in one socket, having two in two sockets following the ASUS's manual would cause an orange light. The solution for this one was to send it back and get a new set of ram and wullah, it works. (Hoping this would be the last time I saw this damn orange light)
Secondly issues started to creep back. the cause of BSOD's and Power downs. While playing games (usually fairly intensive ones) the PC would at a random time gain a BSOD, or completely shut off. This isn't the first time I have encountered these errors and what fixed it in my instance was a new power supply. So he bought a new power supply. However one thing that was happening here is that sometimes the PC didn't boot back up. The fix for this being to turn off the power switch. Wait till everything had fully powered off and then restart.
Once installing the new power supply the PC seemed fine. (The power supply has only been installed for two days so there hasn't been to much time to test if this had solved the issues.
However,
The PC would not now start up at all after about 5 seconds of the power being on. the only way we could get the PC to turn on at all was to flick it on at the power and then instantly press the power on at the front of the case.
After taking apart the computer fully and rebuilding it, this was no different. We then noticed that the bios light was constantly flashing green which after doing research is a flash. However this has not gone away at all and the pc still won't start even after leaving it extended periods of time. We even tried to put the latest bios update on a USB stick and had it ready for when it tried to flash but even after leaving it for an hour that light did not turn off.
The hope to fix this was to at least get in to the bios so that we could try something within it. The issue we are now facing is that the DRAM orange light is showing again! This had not happened before rebuilding it again today and subsequently we cannot get it to boot to the bios.
What We've Tried
Replacing the power supply for the issues related to shutting down.
Trying to short the CLRTC pin
taking out the 3v Battery for 10 minutes and placing back in.
tried the ram in all sockets with 1 and 2 sticks.
spun the button at the back of the case that indicates a CMOS reset (asus b650-a)
tried leaving the ram in the slots for about 10-15 minutes at a time.
Summary
Apologies if this a little to much blabber but I am trying to give the full context on the situation, I am new to Tom'sHardware and was recommended by a friend to give it a try.
I am happy to give whatever a go, it's just been a very confusing process and could really do with a hand understanding what is needed to put right here, if anyone needs any other context please let me know and I will do my best to provide what is needed to help get this one fixed.
SPECS:
Asus ROG STRIX B650-A WIFI
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
EAGLE RTX 4070 Super
TEAMDELTA Group 32GB RBG, 2x 16
Thank you
Joey
