Build New PC Now, or Keep Waiting?

Hey guys. I've been waiting to build a new gaming PC since July of last year. I sold my old AMD 7950 on eBay then, so I've basically had a giant paperweight on my desk for a year. I sold in hopes that AMD's Polaris would be the card I wanted; it turned out to be mid-range.

So fast-forward until now, and I've been holding out for Vega. To someone like me who needs a whole system upgrade, the Radeon Packs seem interesting...but Threadripper launches tomorrow and the Vega cards that get released on the 14th won't have the better coolers that come from other vendors.

I'm also concerned about the prices from Vega cards going up from the mining craze. Heck, I don't even know if a Vega 64 will be worth it compared to a 1080.

So. Invest in a Radeon Pack now and make a build, or hold out until Black Friday/Cyber Monday and see if something like that Amazon 1080 TI build comes around again at $1400 (and just replace the mobo)?

Sorry man!

Like I said, my current PC is not functional due to not having a graphics card.

Intel i7-2600
ASRock P67 EXTREME4 GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
8 GB DDR3 1600
Western Digital Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s
CORSAIR 750W 80 Plus Gold PSU
NZXT Apollo Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

I can still use the case and the PSU I believe.

I've also picked up a few parts on sale over the years. I have a 1 TB Samsung EVO SSD and a Sound Blaster Z PCIe Gaming Sound Card ready to go.

I'd like to do 2k 144hz gaming. I have a preferred budget of $2,000, though I'm willing to go up to around $2,200 (been killing it on overtime at the job).

Thanks!

U can use the case, HDD, ssd, sound card and psu.

Here is a suggestion :

Ur case is pretty basic. Would ask you to consider the phanteks p400s TG case.

Thank you!

Looks like the Micro Center near me is having a Ryzen sale. Can get the 1700x for $290 or the 1800x for $340. Leaning towards the 1700x as you suggested.

If I'm just strictly gaming, would it be worth it to get a 7700k instead?

Also looks like I can get a 1080 TI for $680 from them...

And after looking at my case, you are right. Should upgrade that...
