My pc recently died on me and ive been thinking about piecing together a new build. My question is motherboards. I wanna build a i5 or a i7 system. Now people ive asked are saying MSI and others have said screw MSI get a Asrock Fatal1ty X99 board since I do love to game and im a huge gamer on and off the PC. But which one?? Its been 10 years since Ive built a system.I haven't been keeping up on latest tech as far as mobo's. Is there a better brand?? Maybe more affordable??(Money really isnt a huge issue but hey who wants to spend $300-400 on a motherboard??)

Solution
If budget is a concern, go with a Z97 board and i7 4790k/4790 or wait for Z170 boards and Skylake processors. X99 is nice with a lot more PCI-E lanes, but Z97 can definitely fulfill most needs at much lower costs. I recommend either a ASUS or a Gigabyte motherboard with Z97 chipset and i7 47xx series cpu. If you do need to do a lot of photo/video edition, go with X99 and i7 58xx series cpu.
Screw Asrock, i'd rather buy the MSI. but that's personal preference. I've had alot more trouble with Asrock in the past.

I like to think Asrock are cheaper for a reason, not as high quality.

Asus is by far my favourite MB vendor now.

You know... there are a sites out there that reviews motherboards, one of them is called Tom's Hardware. 😛 They often put articles up showing great build combinations for various budgets. Check out the System Builder Marathon series of articles.

ASRock has some excellent values out there right now, and lots of good reviews depending on the model that fits your desired specs and price range. MSI has long been a solid motherboard maker, but just like ASRock or any other manufacturer, it varies based on price, specs, and reliability.

I've always liked ASUS myself.
