build your own projector

Hey all,

I was just pondering on that old article about building your own projector from an LCD: http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/11/13/supersize_your_tv_for_/

and was wondering if it would help any to use multiple bulbs in the projector (and if so, how to do that). Otherwise, I was wondering if you could use the housing and just replace the light with something huge like a big spotlight or something.

Thanks for posting this, I was planning on doing this for fun a while ago when the article was published, and completely forgot about it, I’m in the military and don’t have the room for keeping something so big in our small barracks rooms and we don’t get the allotted space to ship something like this too. I am deffinetly going to do this once my contract terminates in a couple of months though. I already have a retail projector. So all I would be doing it for is sh*ts and giggles.
I don’t think there would be any problem with using a flood light; though I would think the heat from it is substantially more. As for multiple bulbs if they were in an enclosure, something to focus the light it would probably work (like in the older flashlights). I couldn't image any problem with ether of these ideas, though personally I would recommend just getting a brighter bulb.

In regards to the heat, I was thinking maybe a glass plate inbetween the TFT and the light source might help, though I'm not sure if that might distort the image some.

I'm wondering if it would help any to use lenses to focus the light. Perhaps that would cause uneven lighting?
