The thing is, that where I am, the AMD CPUs are way cheaper than Intel ones, what I'm saying, is if that's true for him, it's a very good option. If you only intend to play, then sure, go to Intel since it will do better. But the 4th generation only got better by 5-10% over the 3rd, so the AMD CPUs are still great. Like I said before, you almost need a cooler for the 8-core without OCing, so be aware of that. Since you probably won't, and if you chose Intel, an aftermarket heat sink is not necessary, only if you really want to reduce noise, and even then I don't know if its worth.

EnderEgg, the thing about AMD cpu's for the price they're better at VIDEO EDITING and CPU INTENSIVE TASKS.

The i5 is just a better GAMING cpu than the AMD which is superior at video editing.

At the end of the day I think OP is sold on Intel and I think it's the way to go if you want to have a quiet decent gaming rig!

okay, so im about ready to buy it all, is there something more i need before buying and i will be need the wifi adaptor due to not being able to connect to lan from where the computer is sat up

not sure if you know how to read, or if you read what i wrote. I said that AMD is better for multi tasking and streaming/rendering. Intel if he only wants to game. So, do you want to keep this stupid discussion or did you understand now?

Not really a war. Both sides would have to have something to throw and AMD has next to nothing at the moment. I found the discussion quite entertaining.

If the OP's local economics turn things so that AMD is significantly cheaper than Intel (again), then so be it, it only makes sense to go AMD.

When people say "AMD is cheaper than Intel" I wonder what cpus they are comparing considering a $100 i3 outperforms the $170 FX8350 in most games.

People also have to keep in mind that the 8 core FXs pretty much demand a 8+2 pp motherboard to even run at stock speeds and then an after market cooler to overclock. These things drive the price up negating whatever value there may have been.

This. You get what you pay for. I have no problem "paying more" if I (feel I) get a superior product, which is what Intel has, in the main.

Sorry I misread but that wasn't a very nice way to put that.

We kinda had the same point then.

Yeah, I'm not be person of the year, sorry about that. The reason I recomend AMD is because is a very viable option and, where I live, I can buy an fx-8320 and a decent mobo for the price of the i5-4590k. that's why I always say AMD is a good option, because where I live is way cheaper. but yeah, if it was the same price I'd go for Intel
