Hi, I currently have a macbook air 2013 that i run windows on using bootcamp and its a i5 processor with 8gb ram and 128gb storage. I am looking to build a pc that has i7 and 16gb ram with 128gb ram as i think that will be able to handle the tasks i need it for. Currently computer starts throttling everyday when i open everything i need for work and starts lagging. I would also like to screen record using OBS which i am not able to do currently due to the load it has on the laptop. Is it possible to build a pc of this sort under 600$? Thank you. Appreciate any replies

Solution
Ryzen is very ram sensitive, and needs fast ram, to get the most out of it. The 1700x requires a cooler, so a 1700 makes more sense. Modified ohenry's build.

Not with an i7 and 16gb of ram. If you went with ryzen 5 1600 and like a used gtx 1050, maybe but its hard to get everything you asked for for under $600. Try fiddling around on a site called pcpartpicker and see what you can put together.

Hi, I dont need a i7 processor i just need it to be fast enough and relatively new technology to be future proof for a couple of years before i can make a really good one. Also i am not a gamer so do i need that graphics card?

Under 600$ with a top end Ryzen CPU with 8 cores that is better than much intel has. If you dont game AMD is better choice.

Question from aryan201215 : "Compatibilty check of new pc/ first time builder"

You want at least DDR4 3000 ram, for Ryzen. The CX450m recommended above will work fine. Use those savings towards a larger SSD. 120g simply fills up way too fast. You can get 250gb class drives for a similar price. Does your work require the need for an 8 core CPU? What is the budget?

I have trading charts, web browsing and streaming open on 3 total screens at the same time. Currently my laptop starts throttling and lagging so i have to close the chrome tabs and also i would like to run obs to screen record which i currently cannot. I dont need a 8 core cpu, just need something that is relatively new and fast tech. Why do you say i need a 3000 ram and if its a considerable difference, do you have a particular one in mind? And i live in US.

This looks good! I am assuming the pc case comes with a fan to cool it? And I dont meed much storage space so i ll skip on the hard drive i think. Thank you everyone for the quick replies and the help. Is there anything i should know before I start with the build?

The 1700, non x, comes with a heatsink fan, for the CPU. The 1700x does not. The case has fans. Read the manuals, and take your time. You might want that HDD, if you are recording video. You do not want to run an SSD close to capacity, so the HDD is cheap insurance against that happening. That or bump up to at least a 500gb SSD.

I agree going with the Ryzen 1700 non x to get an included heatsink. I've used the MX500 500GB, highly highly recommended. Personally i'd step up $10 for the case budget to get one with a psu shroud, helps with wire storage/looks soo much, but may just be me being ocd. And i'd go for a nvidia gt 1030. Its the only card i'd get under $85 brand new, just make sure and double check that its the ddr5 version, ddr4 one sucks butt.
