Building a computer for the first time and nothing is displayed on my monitor

I am building my first computer I did a test boot outside the case and there was no image, I thought maybe if I get everything connected it might work but after finishing putting it together I still get no response on my display.

Is it possible that one of my items is broken or do I have some compatibility issues with something like my RAM maybe. Does the AMD FX 8350 Black Edition support 2x4GB RAM at 1866?

How would I diagnose the problem all I can think of is maybe the graphics card is faulty? The fans on the card work. Everything in the case seems to work, sometimes the LEDs on the cpu fan blink off and back on but otherwise everything seems to run fine.

I tried using only one stick of ram and I tried both by themselves and that didn't change anything. I moved the video card to the other PCIe x16 slot and even switched cables from the PSU with no change.

I also had a question about Mail in Rebates, I have one for my motherboard, psu, and GPU. The GPU is due by June 6 and I was wondering if I send in the rebate and the GPU doesn't work would I be able to return it to Newegg for a replacement?

Does it boot at all? BIOS post?

Could be a dead card. But also could be and output problem. If it's a new build and your output is DVI and you have not yet installed drivers, sometimes it won't display anything on the screen. Try straight HDMI to HDMI or even VGA.

Also check that all power connections to the graphics card and motherboard are correctly fitted.

I'm not sure if it boots at all how would I know if the display doesn't show anything? I have tried connecting it first with HDMI and than Display Port.

All the cables look and feel like they are fitting right. they don't pull out without pressing the clip. The connector I plugged into the ATX 12V connector is split into 2 4pin plugs. My modular PSU came with 2 of these cables labeled CPU1 and CPU2 does it matter which one I use? I used the one that says CPU1 and plugged it into the spot with the same name. It was difficult when plugging it into the motherboard.

Thanks for that link. I will go through steps. For the one about the pushing the graphics card and RAM in all the way, it is fine if I hear the clicking sound of the clips and to remove them I have to open the clips right?

Another thing my GPU has a hybrid bios switch, it should be in the hybrid BIOS position. should I try to switch it to the Legacy BIOS?

You could try that since your motherboard still uses a bios instead of an uefi (new type of bios).

I tried the steps and I bought a system speaker and when I turned it on there was no beeps coming from it. Does this mean there is something wrong with my PSU, Motherboard, or CPU? The only step I didn't take was removing the cpu to see if any pins were bent or if I used too much thermal grease. I haven't done that because I don't have any more thermal paste and I would need to clean the old stuff off and put on new stuff right? I guess I could always use the stock heatsink that has the thermal paste already on it.

I started "breadboarding" and with just the motherboard and cpu pluged in and heat sink I got a bunch of beeps then when I added the ram it didn't beep at all does that mean my ram is bad? Or is my HyperX Fury 2x4GB 1866 ram incompatible with my AMD FX 8350 Black edition or my Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3?

I want to be sure my graphics card works so I can send in the rebate. Could I just ask a friend to test it in their computer by removing their card and plugging mine in?

Alright I found out the problem was my RAM. I took my computer to a local pc work shop and they tested each of my components and when they tried a different stick of RAM my computer started up. Now I need to know is it that my RAM was just bad or do I need to use a different type of RAM?

Should I just get my RAM replaced or should I buy different RAM?

I would first get it replaced,see if a different set will work.
What kind of ram did they use,for instance did they also use 1866mhz ram?
Did both sticks not work or just one?!

Both of my sticks didn't work and I'm not possitive what kind of RAM they used, when I got home I realized I should have asked, but they only used one stick. They did suggest trying 1600 RAM so maybe thats what speed of RAM they tested it with.

If both sticks seperately didn't work should you better go for different ram.It's probably more a compatibility issue in that case.It's hard to imagine that both sticks in one set are both flawed.
