it appears i was mistaken, thanks for pointing that out I have so many tabs open looking at so much i sometimes forget which one im looking at for what lol

Alright, here's an update.... possibly the Intel e5200 CPU , I've heard its a better overclock than the 7400, or i was wondering about quad-core, are those really useful yet or is it just not a great choice?
Still looking at the Sapphire 4870 1GB, but considering maybe a GTS 250 ... anyone know how these compare? I couldnt find any reviews on the GTS 250 and all the comparison charts i found were either outdated or unhelpful. Decided against Crossfire.

likely i'll go with the sunbeam case, all the reviews say it's big enough for the cards and keeps things at a cool temp.

To the OP, why are you so set on a getting a Core 2 Duo? A Phenom II X3 can be had with your price range. I really think you'd get a better system with AMD in your specific price segment.

personal preference really... nothing against AMD, i just know intel and how they run a little better, which would make things easier to customize IMO

Question: many reviews on these video cards im reading say the cards are "long" and to make sure i have enough room in my case to fit them in without being to close to drive bays and CPU. my question is, how do i know? i've looked and didnt find any dimensions in the specs of the cards, and the cases dont give exact dimensions for that either.

You also want to read the reviews on the case you chose. There is a few reviews...one being the third one, that states the owners have ATI 4870's and they didn't mention any problems with the length of the cards.

As far as a E5200 over a E7400....the 7400 has more cache, higher fsb, and it all around a better buy if you can afford it. Yes the E5200 is know for high overclocks...but you have to overclock it high to get any performance out of it.

This is a kind of wierd question, but why do all the video cards look like they are built with a design to go into cases that open on the right panel? Most cases open on the left and the graphics on the cards would be upside down and not viewable through glass window cases...

I plan to order all this once I get paid lol... well here's another possibility i just put together... what do you guys think?

The MSI card has won me over for now...great buy plus free Far Cry 2 will be nice with a new system! :) How do i check to make sure everything will work correctly with the mobo?

Thanks again, you guys have been a lot of help

Get this ram instead, better timings:

Much better cooler and worth the price difference:

That case you chose is ok...but there are much better options out there. The CM-690 has awesome airflow and is very large allowing lots of room for all your components.

Slightly more affordable and very good quality case:

That mobo you chose is very nice, but the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P offers the same at a lower price and is the better buy:

You chose to spend a lot of money on your other components and the least amount on the CPU, arguably the most important part of the PC. I would upgrade to at least an E7400 at least, games will see a big improvent in the increase cache size.

Ok let's see what we have here. Your not going to run Crossfire, so no need spending extra money on a mobo that does. Here is two mobo's to take a look at. On the cheaper mobo you can still get that cpu up to 3.5 @ 1333 fsb (10.5 x 333). For cases...I will stay out of this one. I'm a Cooler Master fan myself... CM590 for single card, CM690 for dual card set up. On the heat sink....if you plan on over clocking I would go with a Xigmatek. You can get a cheaper 92mm Xigmatek if your worried about fitting it into your case. They have them for about $20 and they work fine, just make sure you order the bolt through kit.
