Building my first PC (with the below Specs)... Everything is plugged in yet when I turn on the computer the light comes on, CPU Cooler starts spinning and then within a second or two it'll switch off before coming back on and repeating every couple of seconds. (without any beeps)

Have tried starting up the system with just the PSU / Mobo / CPU (no RAM) and have tried as well with just the single RAM stick yet to no avail (have also tried replacing the PSU to see if that works).

Any advice would be much appreciated as this is my first attempt at this sort of thing.

Intel Core i3 4150 3.50GHz Socket 1150 3MB L3 Cache
Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP Socket 1150 DVI HDMI 7.1 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
Patriot 4gb 1333mhz Sign Desktop Dim
Corsair CSM 550W Semi Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply

Part of me is wondering if its because I'm only using one stick of memory but am reluctant to splash on on more in case that isnt the issue

As well my Mobo says it supports DDR3 memory... Does that mean it'll support ANY DDR RAM or only particular brands / models?

Ive tried without RAM and Ive inserted just the one stick of RAM into each of the four slots but no difference
