[SOLVED] Building a new system

I would like to use the Intel i9 - 12900k with the Maximus z690. Since DDR5 ram is near impossible to get right now, should I just scrap that plan and use an ASUS Prime Z690M DDR 4 board with the i9 instead? Or should I be patient and wait for more DDR5 ram to hit the shelves? I can't see manufacturers letting this shortage cut into xmas sales, but projections don't sound good. I'm afraid if I wait too long there will be a shortage of those ASUS boards! I game a lot on my current setup if that helps.

Solution
If this is for gaming I'd give the i7 12700K/KF serious consideration. It uses less power and hangs right there with the i9. Also Gigabyte boards allow you to disable the e-cores without going into the bios (link down below). Pair it up with DDR4 3200mhz CL16 or DDR4 3600mhz CL16 RAM. Make sure to get an LGA 1700 bracket for whatever cpu cooler you decide to go with.

I think I'd go ddr4 and let ddr5 get its legs under it so the speeds go up and prices come down.

Of course if I had anything Intel gen 8 and up, I'd just try to wait for the next iteration altogether, which is where I am.

I was considering an i7 12700kf w/an AORUS z690 at first until I saw the i9. I might rethink my entire plan now that my first choice is out the window. Either way, I'll go with a DDR4 board as has been suggested. Thanks for the input!

My old system is on its last leg so I'm using my laptop right now to game on. The laptop does fine but I really just want a new desktop. :D

ddr4 is still good enough. The i9 12900K supports DDR4 and DDR5
You can find 4600 MHz DDR4 RAM.

So, considering the advice here I revised my build.

The system will be mostly for gaming. I plan to use Windows 11. Still considering what video card to get. But so far my plan is this:

Intel i9 12900k (I know the i7 12700k/kf is really good for gaming but I stuck with the i9)

Intel Core i9-12900K - Core i9 12th Gen Alder Lake 16-Core (8P+8E) 3.2 GHz LGA 1700 125W Intel UHD Graphics 770 Desktop Processor - BX8071512900K - Newegg.com
