So I recently got myself an upgrade for my pc. Ended up going with a b350 tomahawk and ryzen 5 2400g. I have an older gpu right now but with the 3200 mhz ram and a little overclocking the apu will outperform it but I will be adding a gpu in the future. I also have a hyper evo 212 for cooling. I always wanted to try building my own case for it so here we are.

My plan is to use acrylic and make a flat upsidedown U shape so more like |-| without the top part of it to go around an aluminum drawer. Basically like a pull out drawer for the psu and motherboard with everything attached to the drawer part and on rails on the inside of the opening of the U so that I can pull it in and out as needed for cleaning or upgrades. The front and back will probably be wooden with some sort of handle to be able to pull the pc in and out of place as a whole.

The acrylic comes into play in that it will be a small fish tank. You will be able to see the computer components in the center of the tank and any lights will come through into the water.Only the back and front will be covered in wood the cables and psu will be under the motherboard so it will be covered and probably inclosed in aluminum with probably a fish tank decal on the outside. The tank will not be attached to the computer itself. It will more or less just be around the entire top right and left sides. The base will be a hardwood to hold everything with the top of the tank being custom fit to close but have a flip up top installed for feeding the fish. Im thinking some neon tetras will go well in there with some plants along the "legs" of the tank to give it more of an authentic aquarium feel but also to compliment the lighting. There will be two case fans on the front and back sides covered in mesh and since the board mother/psu drawer will slide forward as one piece there will be no issues with ripping wires. At most the tank will be around 10-20 gallons and it will probably just sit in the corner of my desk.

Originally I wanted to make something based off the motherboard dimensions and that left me at something cube like. I want to be able to leave enough clearance in the case for a gpu later on and for the heatsink im putting in there. I was either going to be a companion cube or rubix cube but then I thought about the colors of the board and the lighting I wanted ot put in and I thought that would look pretty cool in some water. I know people play around with awesome watercooling setups and thought this might actually work. What do you guys think of this idea? My parts will probably be here next week so that gives me a bit of time to figure out what I need but I really wanted to have the motherboard on hand before I started building anything to make sure measurements are as close as I can get.

I thought the same thing lol. hopefully it wont get to hot in the water but surely 3mm thick would be enough

Since the pc won't actually be in the water, there's really only 2x considerations.
1. Airflow. Allow enough space for vented air/ heat to escape, or you'll have a serious Hotspot on the tank, which will affect the water temp after periods of hard use/no use.
2. The fish. There's reasons why almost all tanks use standard light wavelengths/daylight bulbs, they might not take too well to varying temp changes and weird RGB colorations.

So for airflow it wont be like a tight closed system. It will be running on rails on the inside so around the front panel and back panels there will be room for air to come and go easily on its own. I will be adding some mesh to the front and back and opening up places to put fans on each side of it, im thinking intake front and out on the back probably get some bigger fans. The bottom portion that will have mainly the cables, psu, ssd, and hd wont be fully enclosed either so air will be able to come and go through there as well and ill be able to cable manage it better by cutting wholes into the aluminum portion that will have the stands for the motherboard. I know the mb has some red leds around the corners of it and I will try my best to dim those out but for the most part there will be a white/ blue glow coming through so it should interfere much with the fish. And the bottom portion of the tank itself will have sand and a few tall but thin plants poking up towards the top so it will do a good job of diming out the lights but still letting it shine through. At least that is the plan.
