Building a PC for my aunt to replace her outdated prebuilt.

She needed a new desktop to replace her Sony prebuilt from almost a decade ago. She does photo editing/designing on her i5 laptop w/ a gtx 630 gpu so I figured I would make the desktop capable of doing it better in most senses.

So far I have aquired the following

AMD Athlon x3 435 w/ Hyper 212 Evo cooler p/p (will eventually upgrade to a more powerful multi threaded cpu)

MSI 760GM-P34 (FX)

NZXT Source 210 (Black)

Lite-On 24X DVD Burner


What I need

HDD - 1TB
Ram 2x8GB
GPU - GTX 640 or better (around $120 max on gpu, whatever gives best bang for buck and will offer enough power for her to use it more often than her laptop)
CPU upgrade (whatever you guys recommend would be best)

I will be viewing deals for awhile till I find the right prices for the final pieces *Wont be till after the 1st of next year that the computer will be completed/built due to her budget constraints, and it will be easier for her to afford a piece at a time for the parts that I have/will buy for her myself.


Any recommendations/suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated. I have a pretty well rounded understanding of PCs so you won't need to hold my hand in this thread, mainly its just for me to keep a log.

Is she going to be playing any games at all? Also, I can't seem to find what processor that is, do you have it listed properly?

If she isn't playing any games, a generation old 550ti will perform better for her and I believe it's at around that price range.

why not go straight to an FX processor right away? Especially with design and editing.

This is my intentions, so I figure about $500

$70 for 1TB 7200rpm HDD
$40 for PSU
$150 for FX 8XXX series CPU
$60 for 2x8GB ram
$100 for GTX 650 GPU
$45 for 430W psu


$465 total to be more exact.

8 gig of memory will be enough if she use the 64 bits system since she does not play games got 2 stick of 4 gig and whatt is the psu you want to put in that system name and model ? because the card ask for a 400 watts psu with one pci-e connector .

the CX 430w is what I was looking at. Should be plenty tbh.

I was considering the 16GB because she will most likely use it and its only $20 more than the average price of the 2x4GB.
