As the title states, my father approached me and asked if I could build him a computer. He said he would like it to have video editing capabilities, but he doesn't care about gaming at all.

BUDGET: Make one build for 850 and one for 1500, so that he has options

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Video editing, general use

OS: Windows 7/8, whichever's cheaper

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, Amazon

Location: Oklahoma

Parts Preferences: Intel CPU, no preference on anything else

Overclocking: no

SLI or Crossfire: no

Your Monitor Resolution: 1080p

Additional Comments: He would like an SSD as a boot drive. The editing software he's using is Sony Vegas.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: His company is taking his pc back when he retires.

Solution
Here's something in between:

You can upgrade a few parts to hit that $1500 mark or decide what you don't really need and break it down closer to the 850 mark. Hope this helps but as is that would be a great system with upgradeability but no real need to for the immediate future.
Do you also need a monitor?
