Building an A10-7850K with no GPU and later getting a GPU

I was planning on an upgrade to my PC. My only budget is for the cpu only no gpu build and using the apu until I got enough money to buy a gpu. I was thinking of getting a GTX 960 Strix. Is it good or any should I buy something else? If I should pick something else, please suggest some. Thanks!

You are changing the goals a little , originally you looked to be on a very tight budget.
I personally wouldn't buy the i5 6400, its a nonsensical CPU release to me with its 2.7ghz base clock - I'm sure there's a market reasoning behind it somewhere but not for gamers.
I5 6500 or nothing IMO , the older haswell 4460 is worth a punt at the right price.

Otherwise the i3 I already mentioned.
If you want it for gaming then you should avoid an APU, it neither serves the purpose of a Gaming CPU nor a gaming GPU. APUs are worthless if you want gaming. Just go for a i5 6400 and later get a GTX 1050 or 1060 (Pascal GPUs which are expected to be released around end of this year.)
Hope it helps :)

Will the HD Graphics work? Like I'm playing CS:GO, LoL, Dota, and other in-demand games.

Skylake integrated graphics will run those games at low-medium settings.
The i3 6100 is about the same price as the 7850k most places.
To be fair the 7850k will perform a fair bit better without a discrete GPU ,but if you're 100% going to drop a 960 in there as soon as you can afford one it would be a foolish purchase really.

What other cpu should i buy if i'm not going for the 7850k?

If this is a new build then logically the i3 6100 is the best choice, paired with a cheap h81 board it should cost about the same as the 7850k & a cheap a68 amd board.
It won't game as well without a GPU fitted but it'll perform far better with one.

All those games you mention are primarily twn threaded & the i3 does very very well with them.

What if i'm going for an i5? What i5 should i get? Or an amd?

The best AMD CPU right now (to get) is probably the X4 880K, it's cheap, pretty good performer, overclockable too and a much better option than an APU. But the problem is, it doesn't have an integrated GPU. It costs about $90.

I will never recommend an i5 for tight budget gaming PCs. The i3 seems like the best choice.
