Building first Gaming PC

Hi,

I am currently in the process of building my first gaming PC. I have been reading guides about what parts I need, I have chosen all the required components but I'm not sure if everything is compatible. Can anyone tell me if all these parts are compatible and give any suggestions? Also if you know any alternatives that can help me cut costs that would be great too, the cost at the moment is $848 Canadian. Thank you for your help.

Changing the video card to a 5770 will unfortunately increase costs about CA$ 15 - 20, but it will give you a much better video card.

Looks pretty good. According to Tom's "Best Graphics Card" article, the 9800 GTX+ and the GTS250 perform on par, while the GTS250 is a few dollars less.

That PSU doesn't appear to be of very high quality, judging by the reviews it's received. PSU's are not something you want to skimp out on, as a failure can cause damage to your hardware. I'd spend a few more dollars and get something like this.

Other than that, it looks pretty good; it's apparent you've done your research. Don't forget an optical drive (DVD-RW), as well as case fans and an OS. Good luck

With that type of video card, you do not need a 700 - 750 watt PSU. A good 550 watt PSU will do.

Not that I'm an expert on cases, but I've built my own PC before. I have the exact case. I'd kind of recommend against getting it. It seems to be a decent, cheap case, but I'd recommend getting a full size case with several good fans so you can continue to use it later on when you build your second computer. It gives you more options.

The fans imo aren't that good compared to others out now. Go here for specifics.

The front fan is 80mm while the back fan is 120mm and the back fan doesn't have a high rpm at all. The front fan is partly covered up by the power button set up and vent holes are only big enough for 80 mm fan. Not sure how well a 120mm fan would do there. It would be good for a first build I guess but I think you'd have to upgrade later on. So if that's ok with you go ahead and get it, but there might be better ones around that price range also. I purchased mine for the $45 US about 4 years ago. Figure there have to be better 50 dollar cases out now.
