Building help

I am suppose to get my new system today.. I was wondering if there is a tutorial or guide on putting it together.. I am not overly concerned on physically assembling the tower (unless there are tips and tricks or things to be aware of) but slightly more concerned about the settings in the bios and etc once i get it assembled.. I have put a system together but its been a while..

Doing a Google search for "how to build a computer" will give you more material than you will know what to do with. If you read through the "READ before posting about boot problems!" sticky at the top of this forum you should avoid the most common new builder mistakes.

Most of the time you don't have to fiddle in the BIOS too much. Playing with the boot order to install windows is the most you should have to do.

Most of the playing in the BIOS is if you plan to OC.

6 gigs of g.skill

AND

6 gigs of OCZ?

no that was a typo.. I only got the ocz memory..


On that note and just to make sure.. I am installing the ram.. I have 6 slots (3 white and 3 blue) i put 1 sick in each white slot???

On the board it should tell you which slot is #1. I believe it starts closest to the cpu and moves out. Meaning you would put 1 RAM chip in each blue slot.

Be sure to check the owners manual to be sure which RAM slots to use because the above advice is the exact opposite of most i7 motherboards. They usually start with the slot further over. That would be the white slots on your motherboard.


Edit: I just checked your motherboard manual and verified that you are supposed to use the white RAM slots for triple channel mode. It's on page 16 of your manual.
