Firstly, the details:
Approximate Purchase Date: This week, preferably
Budget Range: 600-800 USD
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Redditing, schoolwork
Parts Not Required: Keyboard and mouse
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I've heard good things about Newegg and had good experiences with Amazon
Country: USA
Parts Preferences: None really, I don't have enough experience to have preferences
Overclocking: No
SLI or Crossfire: I have no idea, I'm not really a stickler for graphics so I'm not sure I should care
Monitor Resolution: Like I said, I'm not a stickler for graphics. I have a 1024x768 monitor right now which seems to work well enough, but I understand that's pretty old

Additional Comments: ChooseMyPC recommended the MSI GeForce graphics card, though considering it's about a quarter of my expense and I don't care too much about graphics I'm wondering if that would be a waste of money. I also picked the case out myself, which as far as I can tell should work but if someone else could confirm that it'd be much appreciated.

you can get a better power supply and graphics card if you want and be below $800

Solution

What would be the benefit of a better power supply? Also I'm not really inclined to max out my budget just for the sake of a graphics card. Like I said in my original post I don't care about graphics that much, if the card I already have listed will work fine then I'd prefer to stick with that

What you've chosen looks good to me without knowing lots about each part in detail. PSU wattage is fine, especially if you don't overclock. I believe you can get Windows cheaper than that, though.
Maybe add a small SSD, they're not very costly and give a nice speed boost.
A larger monitor with higher resolution is quite nice once you have it, and HD is affordable and the current standard anyway, so I'd add that; although I can't help you with specifics.

go with samis's build but change the graphics card to r9 390 it is cheaper and performs better than the 970 . also get a 650w powersupply . 650w is enough for a r9 390 ( i have a 650w psu and a r9 390 😛 )
