Building my first machine.....
I have alot of experience with high end computers in general and own a couple of Alienware machines. I think it is

time to build my own system. I would appreciate any of your input on my hardware selections before I order. Any

advice appreciated....

Lian LI PC-6089 (Already Purchased)

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-SINXP1394

CPU Intel P4 3.06 (I am not an overclocker, will the heat sink that comes with this processor be good enough?)
Antec Thermal Paste

Ram 2-CORSAIR CMX512-3200C2 64X64 400MHZ 512MB CAS2 DDR DIMM W/HEAT SPREADER (I am seeing people who are having

problems with this RAM, I need a recommendation for 1 GIG of Ram in Dual Channel DDR Setup)

Video: ATI All-In-Wonder RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB DDR 8X AGP (Is this wise? Alot of people seem to have issues running

the 8X APG)

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum eX (I got the External because I am worried that the cover will not close propoerly

on the case)

Power Supply Antec Power supply True480 with Blue LED Fan (Is this powerful enough?)

Hard Drive: I want to try using the ATA 133 Serial Connection on the MB. The only drive I could really find that

seems able to do this is:
SEAGATE SERIAL ATA150 120GB ST3120023AS 7200RPM 8MB 9.4MS Will it make a difference that this HD is 150 Serial ATA?

Any all Advice Appreciated...
Thank you,

SBS

The stock heatsink is excellent when not overclocking. I wouldn't pay top dollar for serial ata hardrives. The net speed doesn't even approach 150. I would suggest a standard ide western digital or maxtor ata 133 with 8 meg cache if the price is significantly lower than the seagate. Can't advise you on the memory or video card, but you're right; some people have had issues with both. I would buy from a good vender such as newegg, in case you have any problems and need to return them. The power supply is more than adequate. I would also try the onboard sound before getting a premium soundcard; it may work just fine.

SATA is really cool for making your case nice and neat.... it gets alot of extra space by taking out those huge IDE cables

RIG
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
80gb Maxtor
Lian-Li PC-60
Lite-On 52X
AMD XP2800+
LeadTek GeForce 4 Ti4200 w/vivo 128mb 8x
Hitachi CML174
1 GB Corsair XMS PC3200 Cas2

Maxtor is the only hardrive manufacturer with the ATA-133 IDE & SATA-150 interface. No problems with 1Gig of RAM with WinXP or Win2k, problems arise when they try to run 1Gig of RAM, of any kind, with Win98,98SE,or ME, those OP/SYS's only effeciently run 512Mb of RAM. Corsair is excellent high quality RAM. And the heatsink will be sufficient, but I'd go with the Vantec Aeroflow for the P4, its smooth, quiet, and cools very nicely.
