Hello!

I'm a beginner at overclocking and tend not to do some extreme OC but only the simplest. Maybe I should have put this thread under the "Systems" or "Components" category, but I chose to put it here since it involves some OC.

Anyway I'm planning to order the following parts to build my computer:

MB: Gigabyte Z87-DS3H Intel Z87 4xDDR3 Socket 1150 ATX
or: ASRock Z87 Pro 3 Intel Z87 4xDDR3 Socket 1150 ATX

CPU: Intel Core I5-4670K 3,4GHz Socket 1150 Boxed

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 650

HD: Kingston SSDNow V300 Basic 120GB SSD R:450/W:450 2.5" SATA-3

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws Gaming 2x4GB DDR3 2133Mhz

PSU: Cooler Master B500, 500W PSU

DVD/CD: Plextor DVD Writer, PX-891SA

Chassi: Cooler Master Elite 310 Tower No PSU Black/Silver ATX

I choose a Intel Z87 Express motherboard beause as I understand thats needed for OC.

My questions are:

1. Are this build a good one? I'm gonna use the computer mostly for gaming.

2. As I have a limited budget I'm choosing the lower price mother board from Gigabyte instead of an Asus Z87-A Intel Z87 4xDDR3 SLI CrossFireX Socket 1150 ATX. which I have read is ideal for OC. Is the Gigabyte choice a good choice?

3. I'm buying a RAM with higher frequeny so that I can OC the RAM as well. Am I thinking right here?

4. When I will do OC on this system, will I be able to OC the CPU and RAM separately or how does it work. For instance if i wanna run the RAM at 2133MHz and the CPU at the default 3.4GHz... will this be possible? As I said I'm a beginner and I dont know if there even are benefits of just overclocking the RAM.

5. Are there other parts that can be OC than the RAM and CPU?

Very thankful for answers!

Solution
1: This is a good build. I would recommend getting a higher quality GPU like the 660 or 760 to add performance.

2: Any Z87 is a good choice. The Gigabyte and AsRock boards will work fine.

3: Yes, your RAM will safely run at that speed, which is good.

4: You overclock the CPU and RAM separately in the BIOS.

5: You can possibly overclock your GPU speed if you want.
