I am planing to build my own rig that can last for 5-6 years here is the parts i have in mind
i7 4790
asus z97-a
2tb seagate baracuda
120 ssd samsung
corsair 750w
cooler master hyper 212 evo
gskill 16gb
bitfenix ghost casing

few things:
1. an i7 is not really beneficial for gaming, a core i5 4690k would be cheaper, and even perform better in gaming because it can be OC'ed.
2. you didn't mention what GPU you are using, but i'd guess you are looking for a GTX 970 for this price point. if you are, then it will be great for your needs, in 1080p it will crush anything and in 1440p it can play most games maxed out.
3. make sure that your PSU is not a CX supply. those are known to be bad, and something else from SeaSonic, Antec, XFX or EVGA B2/G2 are great buys.

i already have a gtx 960 which i bought last month, but maybe next year i can upgrade my gpu to a asus 980 or if the 990 comes out great, i'm on a budget with regards to my PSU any recommendations?

so i did some PCPartPicker testing, and it seems like your have about 870 for a PC, so instead of just a PSU, this is what i recommend for that price:

this is without the GPU and without windows so keep that in mind.
anyway, this is about 100 bucks below your budget, so what i recommend, is that your try and sell your GTX 960, and get a 970 instead.
