Hello

WOuld it be easier for me to build my own PC or upgrade an exisitng one?
Factors to consider
Time - No real time frame ( a month or two )
Difficulity - I have a fairly good knowledge of computers basics etc.
Cost - Don't want it to be too expensive

Thanks

Solution
The i5 will cost you approximately 80EUR more than the i3, and the performance you may gain over may not be worth the extra money.
An i3 is more than sufficient for everyday use and light gaming, unless you're doing something CPU intensive such as advanced rendering or game streaming only then will the i5 be worth the extra cost.

For general use and light gaming 8GB is plenty, I own a gaming machine myself and memory usage usually never exeeds 6-7GB in heavy gaming.

Here's 2 builds with an i5 and i3, respectively. Also added a Wifi adapter.

Hi There

Thanks for the reply
Currently i only have a laptop ASUS X501A
So i would be starting from scratch
Thats why i was thinking of either buying a cheap dektop and upgrading the parts myself OR build a cheap enough one myself and then upgrade the specs when i want

Budget would 500 euro be enough ???

Thanks Guys looks good

Would i need a Solid Slate Internal hard Drive do they not work faster or could that be something to upgrade later on
Also Would windows 7 be better than Windows 8

Also is it easy to build the computer itself i looked a few guides and looks pretty straight forward

Sorry meant to add to that reply
What about the processor should i o for a faster processor than an i3 or again just upgrade that at a later date?
And what about a cooler fan would one of those be needed?

i would go for the faster processor so i wouldnt waste 200 moneys again on a upgrade and a cooler fan isnt needed the build is very efficient it will barely put out heat at all
i will update the list if you are gonna get a better cpu so answer back if you are or not i suggest you do though

I may be able to help you. But first, I'll need to clarify on some things.

1. Where do you live?

2. What is your set budget?

3. For what purpose will this PC be for, Gaming, Productivity, Home use?, and do you need a monitor to go with this?

3-A If it's for gaming, what resolution are you playing in (If you already have the monitor), and what games are you planning to play?

4. Do you need to fit an OS into the budget?

Hi Kwa-e

I live in Ireland

Budget somewhere around 500 - 700 max

Purpose - Gaming and General duties - maybe some photo processing and editing also
I have a Toshiba TV that i was going to use as the monitor for now and upgrade later

Os - preferably within the budget or maybe outside it

This will be more than enough for everyday use, multitasking, HD Video (Through the graphics card), and should be sufficient for light photo editing.

For gaming on 1080p, While the graphics card I included may not be able to play games like Crysis 3 and Thief on the highest settings, It will certainly play games like CS:GO, DotA2 and WoW very smoothly on the highest settings, and is a very great card for the price.

Hi thanks for that
I think i would go for i5 cpu just for a good start , i think that graphics card is plenty
Maybe more memory does that make a difference???
Also i would probably need a wifi reader as ill be connecting to internet via wifi
