Hey guys, this will be my first post on this website and I'm not sure this is in the right section or not so please feel free to move this if needed.
I am building myself a new PC. My current set-up is as follows.
MOBO: EVGA 780i SLI
CPU : Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo 3.6GHz OC
GPU : EVGA nVidia 8800 GTS 640MB SSC Edition
RAM : 4GB
So let me start off by saying that I built this rig for $2,000 six years ago. (Price also includes all other components and peripherals devices) Recently my motherboard went to the toilet and doesn't boot at all. So I was going to just buy another 780i and call it a day when I came to see that it was discontinued and if i was to buy it new I have to pay double what I paid for it 6 years ago. However I got to thinking, Grand Theft Auto V will be released for PC sometime soon and I would love it if my rig could play it on Max Settings, I currently have it for 360 but honestly it looks like trash with no anti-aliasing and all. However, there is no way my machine will be able to run that game on max settings or at all for that matter because it barely runs GTA IV (but that game is really buggy). So I am building a new PC, and I have been out of the loop with computer components for the last 6 years. i7's and the nVidia GTX cards were not yet released when I built my current rig so I do not know much about them.
What I want to build is a PC that will Run GTA V at maximum settings at 1080p. Currently I have picked the following components -
MOBO: EVGA x79 Dark (Newegg Item #: N82E16813188131)
CPU : Intel Core i7 4820K (Newegg Item #: N82E16819116940)
GPU : EVGA GTX 780 Ti SC 3GB (Newegg Item #: N82E16814487001)
RAM : G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (Newegg Item #: N82E16820231588)
HDD : Samsung 250 GB SSD (Newegg Item #: N82E16820147248)
I have a few questions regarding my current set-up. Now I know that GTA V has not yet been release and neither have the recommended PC specifications. Firstly, in your guys' experienced opinions, will this machine run the game at max settings with a 1080p resolution, how about a 2k or 4k resolution (2k & 4k not required just curious). Would I be better/r off with the GTX 780 Ti single ($720) or would I be better off with 2 slightly less powerful cards in SLI? Now before anyone says "Just get the 780 and if it is not enough just buy another one for SLI if it doesn't work." please know that I will not be able to buy another one because I only have enough money to buy anything now and I will not have spending money like this anytime in the near future. I currently have a $2,500 budget which also includes a new case, PSU, peripheral devices and perhaps a monitor but maybe not if I can't afford it. Secondly, last time I bought my PC, literally like 2 weeks later they released the i7's and the GeForce 9 series. Are any new components as such set to be released in the next 2-3 weeks that you guys know of? And finally, what about my MOBO and CPU? Do you guys have any recommendations regarding them? Whether I should upgrade or perhaps downgrade to save money because the parts are too advanced for what I am trying to accomplish?
Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced guys!
