Hi guys.
I'll need help here. I'm about to build a new system/workstation. Based on Asus X79 mobo (Cpu for start will be i7 3820 and later upgrade). The system will have 2* SSD one for Linux Ubuntu 12.04 and second for Win7 Ultimate. Then 4 hdd Sata 3 as storage. I'm not sure about graphics card either Ati R9 290x or older Asus 7970. But mine concern is about what I've so far find about x79 mobo, is that Linux Distros wont even boot Live CD and if so there will be problem with sound because it's new ACL892. Another concern is what memory kit should I buy, I wanna start with 32Gb RAM and later upgrade to 64 Gb. Workstation will be mainly used as home Lab, running several VM and Virtualized Cisco routers & switches, with occasional gaming. I'm planing having 3 screens probably AOC I236VM. So could you pls give me some advice about running Linux on X79 mobo (make it boot and sound troubleshooting) ,some help which Ati card would be more appropriate and which RAM kit to buy with regards to later upgrade. Thanks for any reasonable advice.

Im sure linux works with gigabyte X-79

Due to different Linux support condition provided by chipset vendors, please download Linux driver from chipset vendors' website or 3rd party website.

I have Gigabyte UD3 X-79 and I can try linus with my mobo. I need just download it and burn DVD
If I get this done I post results. (if I remember) :)

Needs to enable boot from bios.

Memory this is good. If you wan to with cheaper one then look for 1866 or 1600MHz kit.

If you plan on using xeon cpu then 1600MHz memory is best choice. If you go with 4930k then look faster memory.

Video card r9 290 is not much slower than X version.

If you look best X-79 mobo then Asus or MSI are solid options.
