Hey everyone. Its great to be a part of this community. Ok, my situation is as follows. I own one of those pre built POS pc's. I want to build a new system, and ive heard that if you replace a mobo with the existing hard drive, there could be problems. The hard drive has a partition for recovery purposes. My question is, if i replace all the components, RAM, GPU , Mobo, PSU, etc, etc, and keep my old Hard drive, which has XP home, could i just run the recovery partition so i can keep using my old hard drive , or would i have to purchase a copy of windows and reinstall everything. Which is what im hoping i dont have to do. thanks in advanced for the help.

yeah i started thinking about that after i posted because it has all the drivers for the preinstalled hardware and stuff. that sucks, oh well i guess ill hold off until i get more cash. thanks the quick reply

it's based on WDDM 1.1 which is close to XP SP3 speedwise except in games where it will have a slight advantage because of DX10.1/DX11.

edit: @smithereen, actually Vista SP2 and 7 are based on WDDM 1.1 so they're probably very close in the performance department .

Ok so i downloaded windows 7 64bit. can i install it directly to the new hard drive or do i need to have a preinstalled OS on it first?
