I might be interested, in running my own fiber optics to my house in town, at my parents house. ALso, running a line out to my acreage in the middle of nowhere. Does, anyone have information or knowledge about going about doing this. HOw much does this cost and how hard is it to do? Please message me for help or leave a message.

If you own all the land as then the hard part is all the digging.

When you don't own the land it is all political. Look at the new stuff the FCC is proposing related to shared telephone pole use. ATT and other large ISP try to delay other ISP like google fiber for example. They do crazy stuff to try to prevent any other company from putting service on the same telephone poles they use. They can cause many years of delays with the current system just by going as slow and requiring as much paperwork as possible.

In full agreement with the preceding posts. Not truly a technical concern...

Even if you own the land or propertry there can be problems. Family member last year could not get drywall installed (matter of convenience) when he finished his man-cave basement. Apparently there was a requirement that the low voltage wiring he installed (audio, hdmi, ethernet) had to be inspected beforehand. Apparently low voltage ( <50 v) is now being treated much the same as the electrical installations. Required more permits, drawings, inspections, $, etc...

You may need environmental permits, digging permits, etc, etc.. And once they know you have done it all then your property value will go "up" along with your property taxes..... And if discovered after the fact you may be forced to tear it all out. And/or fined.

DIY is not what it used to be.
