Built a PC, trying to find methods of wireless connectivity.

Hello,

I recently amassed enough components to upgrade my boyfriend from his [censored] laptop, but my final hurtle is making sure he can connect wirelessly. He tends to want to play in our living room which has no options (not even janky cord setups) for a LAN connection.

The mobo I found had a built in wireless card (pictured below) but I believe I broke it trying to get it out of the case it was originally found in. The wires that were connected to the conduits on top popped off, and the wires that threaded to the front of the case and were taped down also got destroyed. The drivers are up to date as far as I know (the model is recognized and listed as up to date in the device manager) but the only option for connectivity is the bluetooth option.

Another option was to buy a wireless adapter. I have two, but they both fit a PCI slot that he only has one of, which is currently in use by his GPU. My only other option (I think?) is these two slots that I'm unfamiliar with, also pictured below.

(because I just realized the glare and I can't take a new pic, the model is a "Killer Wireless-N1202)

I've done some research and found options like USB adapters which I'd rather avoid if I can plug one into the mobo, but I've also found cards that seem to fit into these smaller ports? If anything I need help troubleshooting the built in wireless card or finding a good adapter which will fit into these black slots that I'm unfamiliar with.

Thank you!

I work in IT,

I've found power-line adapters to be a mixed bag. It depends greatly on the line quality in your home, furthermore they've basically been made extinct by WiFi. Yes the latency is low, but the net speeds tend to be low too.

That is ridiculous. The pc i'm on right now has a ping of at most while connected via wifi doing some bf4 multiplayer and yes just tested that.

Looking at the wifi card you use does it seem it has still some leeway so maybe you can see if it can go a little deeper into the connector? Can look at this laptops site for the latest drivers for it.The next seems to use the same wifi card, could try those drivers,

click at the lan drivers. That windows says it is up to date doesn't mean it really is.Can also look at the site form the pc it came out of and find drivers there. You probably need antenna's as shown above to really make it work well.

The smaller black slots on the motherboard are pcie x1 slots for which ,as shown above, there are wifi adapters to be found.
I like usb adapters, they tend to come with a cable with which you can change them from position for best signal.I have used powerline as well and can't say that it works better, not in my case anyway,so different story for me than above for sizzling.

Some options,used the cheapest myself,

these are dualband which i would prefer.I know it's solved, but wanted to give my two cents anyway.:)
