I have a 10gb video file which I've now split into 5 smaller videos because of being constantly told that the file is too big to burn when split in half. I've got an 8.5gb disk at the ready but I just can't understand why it won't let me burn the video? please help as it's driving me nuts and I've wasted absolutely hours trying to research this and figure it out!!

Hi there,
Thanks so much for your reply. The entire video is in .mpg and I've also split it into 5 smaller files now in .wimp and saved one of those as another attempt! into .mp4 !! (which took hours!!). I've tried using 'ulead' and windows video maker and CDburnerxp. In an ideal world I'd like to be able to view on a DVD player but quite honestly at the moment, I'd just be happy to have it saved to DVD so that I could view it on my laptop and know that it's safe and backed up. I happily burned, as iso images, a pre-bought film, and can now watch that on my laptop so I know there's nothing wrong with my system as such but I just don't understand how no matter how many times a split the home video, it's never small enough (even though it says it's only 10.5gb total!!) and somehow the smaller parts say it needs even more space to burn than it started out. Hope this extra information helps? I'm not actually a techy person but I do read carefully to try and find solutions but this has beat me!! Any answer/solution would be appreciated in very simplistic/basic beginner terms! Thanks again

How much hard drive space do you have available? I only ask because if you are running low on space that may be an issue that is causing the "not enough space" problem. Are you using a single or dual layer DVD? A dual-layer DVD should have something like DVD+R DL on the disc.

Option 1) Use the drag and drop method to copy a file to the DVD (just created a video tutorial and will send the link via a private message when it is uploaded).

Option 2) Use an external drive instead of a DVD and then you could copy the entire uncut video to the drive.

Hi there,
Thanks once again for your reply. I've just checked my local C: drive and it says I've 48.1gb of space so I'm assuming that's not an issue? Firstly I tried to split the video three times to fit on three separate 4.7gb disks but when that didn't work I ordered some DVD+R DL discs which are 8.5gb. I then split the video twice and it still didn't work..... then as you know, finally split it 5 times!!! I look forward to receiving your tutorial as soon as you have the time. Opt 2? when you say an external drive to you mean an external DVD drive? I do have one of those - I'm not sure if that's what you mean but I'm thinking probably not?!
Hope that extra information helps?
Many thanks again.

I sent a link to the tutorial to you via a private message (PM) but will send it again just in case there was a problem. Please let me know if you did not get it. I should have been more clear about the external drive as by external drive I mean an external hard drive. A flash drive with enough storage capacity (such as a 16GB drive) would be more than enough for that file. An external hard drive would have a lot more storage capacity and would allow you to save a large number of files. It does appear that the free space on your local C: drive is more than adequate for what you are trying to do so I agree that drive space is not the issue.

Hi again,
Thanks for your reply and sorry I've not been able to get back to you sooner. No I don't have an external hard drive in that case! I'm just going to try and find the link you sent now so I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.

No problem at all. Let me know if you have any problem finding the link.
