Short story. Sudden unusual Burnt smell coming from cpu with tweeting like sound coming from psu.

My whole story is. I was using my pc as usual playing a game when suddenly it restarted without bsod. And when i leaned towards pc and I felt like i smelled something burnt (got anosmia from covid months ago). And my housemate confirmed and said that the smell filled the entire room without me realizing.
Anyway. We tried to locate the source of the smell. And it looked like it was from the processor.
I don't know if this was a mistake but I turned pc on again and it worked normally. I monitored cpu temp it was around 70c° and went down to 44c° in a minute (very unusual). Pc ran with no problem when it was idle and when i moved some large files. Then i tried to run the game again while monitoring temperature. When the game started temp rose to exactly 82c° and did as it did last time(it used to work some demanding games even at 90c° with no problem). But I thought it might be thermal paste thing(although imo it's unlikely because this kinda happened suddenly). But i changed it anyway and nothing changed. Temp is the same The smell came again.however this time and i noticed some sound was coming from psu. It went for around 2 minutes even with unplugged pc. It was similar to bird tweet. I never tried anything any further.
So I'm at this point. Don't know what to expect and what could have caused this. And what might need changing.
I haven't installed any new hardware. Also pc isn't dirty.

Cpu i7 2700k
Motherboard asus sabertooth p67
Psu "idk name" 550watt

I'm not good at this stuff. Looking forward to hear from you experts 😉. Sorry if my eng is bad.
And Thanks in advance

Hey, Sorry to here you're having problems. It does sound like you have a bad PSU. If the CPU was overheating it would shut down your system. Its is possible that the PSU might have some dust inside it you could take it out and blow the dust out with some compressed air can. I don't know if how old your system is however, with an gen 2 processor I'm guessing its been around for awhile. Power supplies are pretty cheap you could be able to get one for about 50 dollars. You can also download the manual to help you install the new psu. Its really not that hard. https://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/sabertooth_p67/HelpDesk_Manual/

Thank you for your replies.
I did change psu today. I haven't tested it much but so far it seems to be working fine.

Edit: yes it works all fine now thanks again.
