Burning Video Game CD's

I am trying to burn backups of my sons Playstation CD's. You know how kids can be with Frisbees <g>. Everything seemed to go ok, but it didn't work when installed in the game. Any ideas? Is there some kind of encryption or something that prevents them from being copied?
TIA,
Bob

Sony playstations do have some sort of copy protection on their CD's. I think it has something to do with an unreadable portion of the disk that will not get burned onto a CD. The Playstation looks for this unreadable data to make sure it is an authentic game disk.

There is a way to get aroud this though. You can buy (I'm not sure where) <i>mod chips</i> that either plug into or are soldered onto the Playstation. They make the Playstation skip the disk authenticity check.

I think that if you want to avoid the mod chip issue you can make those backup copies using software like CloneCD, and use black CD-R, which are becoming very common nowadays.
