Buy 7700k Now Or Wait

Hi everyone I was just wondering whats peoples opinions for buying a i7 7700k now for a gaming pc or wait to see what cannonlake has to offer. I have a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T and 8 gigs of DDR 3 of DDR3 and they are really starting to struggle to play anything. I have an nvidia 680 and I've noticed that upgrading that really doesn't matter because my performance is peaking on the CPU and Ram way before it peaks on the GPU. Getting good priced DDR 3 is also really difficult lately and doesn't seem worth the price so I'm waiting to upgrade to DDR 4 instead of sinking more money into DDR 3 because my motherboard can only handle 2 slots of ram so to upgrade I'd need 2 8 gig sticks.

The real question, that no one really knows, is if cannonlake is gonna be a good improvement on 7700k for gaming or is it really not gonna be a big difference and in the end i'll just buy a 7700k anyway. Please let me know your opinions and what you think is the best way to proceed.

Most are indeed eager to see 8600K/8700K performance, which should be widely reviewed in 5 days time...

Even so..the 7700K won't suddenly be 'slow' and 'inadequate' after their respective releases.

True, but it is my understanding that gaming wise the 8000 series won't be much different due to the fact that games are still stuck on 4 core optimization at best.

I'm sure quite a few existing games might not benefit much, but, some games do exhibit at least exhibit modest increases with either more cores or clock speed (BF1)...(it seems BF1 might 'cap out' at 12 threads, as I don't recall seeing any increases from R5-1600 to the R7 series at the same clock speeds...

Yeah but it'd still be a less than ideal investment regardless to get a 4C/8T processor a week before a faster 6C/12T processor is coming out for only 5% more money. Most modern games don't benefit a ton in terms of average FPS from more than 4 cores, but extra threads have shown to improve minimum frame rates and prevent frame drops.
