Buy a gaming computer now or wait 1~2 years?

I have been researching my perfect computer for months now and I pretty much know what components I want for a gaming computer: gtx 970 and i5 4690K. However, this build would cost me like $ 1200-1500 and I already know that nVidia and AMD have announced new gpus and cpus which will be 2-4 times as good as the current generation, and will require special motherboards which won't be compatible with an i5.

Should I wait for two years for this new stuff to come out? When it does come out, won't it be expensive, or will there be components the same price but superior to gtx 970 and i5 4690K?

To be specific, I wanted to be able to play games for the next 3 years on ultra locked at 30 fps.

Solution

There is little to no performance difference between the different variations of the same card. Like 1-4fps max.
Tech doesnt advance as fast as u think. And just because next gen comes out it doesnt make previous one obsolete. Sandy bridge I5 2500k(came out almost 4 years ago) is still solid gaming cpu and with good gfx card can handle latest titles without any problem @1080p ultra.
TLDR version: if u need new gaming pc, just buy it, waiting makes no sense.

No it does not promise better parts at a lower price. You will pay the same amount in 2 years for equivalent (for the time) hardware.

If anything, parts are getting more expensive over the years. A gtx460 launched at $180. The gtx560 launched at $200. The gtx660 launched at $220.

Things like Z97 boards' prices will drop. SSDs' prices will drop. HDDs' prices will (probably) drop. When new tech is used, old tech gets less and less value. A few years ago, SSDs had prices of over 1$/GB. Now, you can get one for under 40-50 cents per GB.

Buy it now. Plus your going with a unlocked cpu so even when that cpu starts to show its age you can always overclock it and make it last a bit longer (Just make sure you have a Z series MB). Typically I don't have to OC my builds till about 4 years later and don't usually upgrade till about 5-6 years. The 970 is a great card as well and will last quite a long time. Also 30 FPS is quite low for pc gaming and a system like that will easily stay @60 FPS (capped there if utilizing Vsync).

Is it possible to tell the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps? I just want to have this last for 5-6 years and play all the new games on ultra. I won't have an SSD and I will just have a 1 TB HDD. I specifically want a computer for playing ultra modded skyrim with like all the enb mods and then have a lot of characters on the scene at once and a lot of followers and enemies. Will prices get cheaper after Christmas? Like a week back, a Cyber power PC was going for 1200 $ because of black friday but now it went back up to 1500. So will it be like 1000 $ for post-Christmas sale (if I buy a complete skystem from newegg)?

Yes during fast moving scenes you will see a difference between 60/30 FPS. It won't make a difference between now and post Xmas for buying a computer. Computer parts will stay around the same price and rarely change even for holidays. Also if you can try building it piece for piece. Newegg has a good video on how to build a computer from scratch and also it can be a great learning experience. If your not sure on parts either post a list of parts on this website to get ppl's opinion of it and maybe some adjustments or post a price and ppl on here including myself would be more than happy to help you build it. PCPartpicker.com is a great site to get prices and compatibility with parts.

Seems like a pretty solid build but if you want to be adventerous I say build it from scratch! Although I do have to say since its mini-itx you won't have much options for upgrade/SLI/aftermarket cpu cooling like closed loop coolers for overclocking.

I completely know all the parts I could want.
i5 4690K
gtx 970
ASrock extreme 4 z97
seasonic 600W
8 GB G.Skill
1 TB WD blue
HAF 912
windows 7 home

Except the cost of building it myself costs more than buying from Cyberpower

Would you trust those stores: Micro Center, OutletPC, NCIX US?
I mean ok... The card I wanted was a non-pre overclocked card from newegg, for $ 329, not that one for 40 more.
