Hi all,

I have lenovo G500 laptop which is very very slow. I bought this little piece of shit last year. Coming to specs its i5 processor with dual core and 4 threads(which i didnt know when buying it) and 4 GB RAM. As days are passing, its turning to be nightmare using laptop. Both computer applications and browser results processing is slower.

So, i am planning for either upgrade or buying new laptop. I came to conclusion that may be 4 GB is not enough. So, planning to buy another 8 GB. Is it worth investing for upgrading? Can i get very good speed with 2 cores and 12 GB RAM after upgrading? I use Virtual machines for my programming stuff, so need some extra memory. Thanks for your time and effort. PFB my CPU-Z links

There is a certain point past which adding more RAM won't do much for you. Run a diagnostic test on your hard drive just in case that might be the problem. Have you also considered reformatting your laptop?

Thanks for your reply syked3. I reformatted my operating system but of no use. i have seen many reviews of the laptop( all bad reviews were because of slowness). I guess its architecturally defective piece. Its not only hard disk, when i click on google chrome button it takes 2 minutes to load page. When i open task manager and click on performance tab it says 3.7 GB being used for no reason( only 4 google chrome tabs open, 3 normal softwares open). I dont know why that huge amount of memory being used when only few processes are running. So, buying new laptop is my option. Right?

Thanks in Advance,

sometimes a laptop can be using a lot of memory when it has malware on it. So you may want to run some tests for malware. Also, upgrading your HDD to an SSD will definitely improve the speed of opening apps, booting etc.
But if your malware scan comes back clean and you've just had enough of this laptop then get a new one. But in my opinion, anything over 8GB RAM is not needed.
