Question Buy new mobo, rams for i7 7700k, or sell.

Currently running with
i7-3820 OC to 4.5ghz
GTX 1070ti

But I got an i7-7700k as gift.

Now I have to decide whether to buy a Mobo costs £60-70 and new rams, for the i7-7700k

Or sell both chips, mobo, and the ram and buy all new?
I have £500 budget.

So far, I can get new mobo, rams for £230.

Truthfully, I'd sell it all off, and shop for an R5-3600 or 3700 variant..

As the 7700K oddly still commands $340+ new on Amazon, you'd be far ahead in the game!

Almost 2020, 4 core CPUs are outdated. I wouldn’t recommend building a system around one if you can sell that 7700k. I would recommend at least a 6 core 12 thread like a 3600 or 8700k. Preferably a 3700x, 3800x or 9900k.

That seems steep (it's a 2 year old CPU released on Oct 2017) compared to price of Ryzen 5 3600...

If forced to upgrade, I'd go 9900K (8 core /16 thread) or just go RYzen 3600 or 3700, depending on budget...; that being said, the R5-3600 and 8700K do both perform fine, and, about the same, on average...

Do you “need” a motherboard that expensive, no. You can go as cheap as you like, but you get what you pay for. Decent CPU I’d get a decent board but a B450 is fine AS LONG AS BIOS IS UPDATED. MSI max boards are Ryzen 3000 ready.

RAM, Are you gonna use 32GB? I never use over 10. You doing content creation or just gaming? Ryzen has a high latency memory controller which makes a big difference with RAM speed and timings. You’ll notice about. 5% loss in performance in that 3200mhz vs the 3600 I recommended.
