Hi everyone,

I just heard the great news that all GPU prices have dropped in prices for preparation for the brand new RTX 4000 series cards, which are getting ready to launch later this year.

I am in a situation where I am not sure if I should buy or wait for the new RTX 4000 series cards and for the brand-new AMD CPUS which are coming out later this year too. As my current PC is very good which I will list the full spec of my current PC down below, I'm currently not in too much of a rush in buying/building a new computer as I was planning on building a new computer early next year. However, with all this latest news happening its soo overwhelming on should I buy now or keep to my plan on buying one early next year like January 2023 time?

My current Pc Spec:

1x Intel i9 7900x 3.3GHz Skylake CPU
1x Asus Intel Prime X299-A 128GB DDR4 2066 Motherboard
1x 32GB (2x16GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 RAM
1x EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 11GB TI Black Edition iCX GDDR5X Graphics Card
1x Crucial MX500 1TB SSD
1x Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD
1x Corsair TX-M 650W Hybrid PSU
1x Corsair H115i Pro RGB Water Cooler
1x Corsair Crystal 460X RGB PC Case
1x Windows 10 Pro COA Licence
1x Arctic F12 120MM Case Fan
1x 2.5 - 3.5 SSD HDD Mounting Bracket

If I was going to buy a brand-new computer, I was thinking about a budget around £6,600 (just for all the PC parts and build myself). Should I wait or buy now as I am not in desperate need of a new PC but would like to build a whole new system sometime early next year but not sure due to what happening in the PC world today if the best time to buy and build a PC is now with my current system when I don’t need a brand-new PC right now but would like one early next year???

The only reason I can think to hold the decsion off buying a new PC now is to wait for the release of the new RTX 4000 series (RTX 4090) and the new AMD cpu. But when these launch will I be able to buy them in January 2023 or will they all be sold out I am not sure. I need your best advice and help! As my current PC is working very good and not sure if it is worth the wait for the new cards and CPU to come out as I can wait for these if its worth the wait (as that was the orginal plan), but I am worried about if stock will be an issue when buying a new pc in January 2023 or not.

Thank you.

The RTX 40XX series cards are rumored to have been delayed. With that said here's a UK build I posted a few days ago that gives you an idea of what you're looking at cost wise for a high end build.

Very true about the rumored 40XX series being delayed but they should come out at the end of this year as remember orginally I was planning on building in January 2023. That said remember about the new AMD 7000 coming out this year too!

As if you look at my current system I dont need one right now but not sure if I wait that everything early next year will be out of stock or not.

Soooo hard to make the descion on carrying on waiting or go for it and buy now when I was not planing on buying now.

Thanks

Since you're considering an AMD cpu it would definitely be worth waiting until the 7000 series becomes available. We see a lot of messages here about people having problems with their systems and they can't tell if its their video card or not. With the new Ryzen 7000 series every cpu will include an igpu component for people to fall back on when they have a video card problem. They'll be able to just pull their video card and see what the igpu shows. This will make diagnosing problems much easier. Plus you'll be able to have not only DDR5 memory but also the new m.2 drives.

Thanks. Yes that is very true well I am not too bothered if its an AMD or Intel CPU as if I went for Intel I would maybe consider the Intel Core i9-12900KS as this is currently the best I9 cpu.

Do you think the new AMD would be worth waiting for compaired to the current Intel I9-12900KS CPU in terms of performance.

Thanks

Too early to tell. Right now we see info from AMD samples and not the final retail product, and not the new retail series motherboards.

In this situation which I am in now considering waiting or buying. Would you recommend me getting a PC/buid one now or wait for new AMD and RTX 4000 series (RTX 4090), or buy the RTX 3090-Ti and the I9-12900KS?

Thanks.

No one knows what the future will hold in terms of the supply chain and retail inventory so no one knows how long you'd have to wait. I had to wait a year and a half to get what I wanted for my build last year. I have one more build to go and I expect that I may have to wait until next spring or even summer to get the new parts I want. I'll wait for reliable reviews of Ryzen 7000 vs. Raptor Lake and the new m.2 drives. Plus with the uncertainty of the economy I'm not sure how much I want to spend. Since you have a powerful functioning system you could also wait. Otherwise when the new parts come out this fall and winter you may regret it.

I did not know Intel was coming out with a new CPU what is Intel coming out with a brand new Raptor Lake CPU in 2022?

Funny that you have attached that video as I've made this form for that reason funny enough hahaha. I watched that video last night and I thought should I wait or buy! As I am not in a rush to buy a PC and I am looking for the best for my budget of £6,600.

So not sure if its worth the wait for Raptor Lake CPU or AMD Ryzen 7000 to come out with an RTX 4090 card. As this is the only reason I would wait for these new PC components to come out.

As for example, if I was going to buy a PC right now I probably get the RTX 3090-Ti with the I9-12900KS. But if the new hardware eg 4000 cards and new Intel and AMD CPUS coming later in 2022 would it be worth the wait for these new CPU and GPU. The only reason is as its right around the corner the launch of these new CPU and GPU.

Thanks

If you have a need now, buy now.
If you wait for the next best thing, you will wait forever.

What is the main purpose for this pc?
If gaming, is it fast action games which need a good graphics card, or, is to cpu centric games like sims, strategy or MMO which like fast processors.

If you run multithreaded batch apps, then that is entirely different.

Today, you have some very good upgrades available for whatever your need might be.

As to the future, there will, within the next year, be upgrades to processors.
When buying new, look for about a 15% price/performance boost over current offerings.

In graphics, there will be some cards that will push 4k gaming past what 4x monitors will currently deliver.

What is your current monitor?

The big current news is that graphics card prices are coming back to normal and MSRP prices. Particularly 3080 cards which were used by miners and are being dumped. If you are looking at the new top dog, the reputed 4090, plan on paying a big early adopter price premium as well as finding it unavailable.

Thank you for your response it’s extremely useful.

Ok I will tell you everything you need to know to inform me your thoughts on if I should wait or buy.

Main Purpose Of New Pc (Simplified):
  • Be able to run all new Triple A games at 4k 144hz if possible (4K-60HZ is fine if needed)
  • Definitely be able to run Triple A games at 2K 144HZ
  • Be able to record all Triple A games with OBS at 4K quality at same time if possible for YouTube Videos. Or some sort of video card like Elgato game capture
  • PC to last very long time (Not planning on upgrading or buying new PC for another 5+ years more 7-8+Years if possible)
  • Monitor I will buy is the LG UltraGear 27GP950 for PC (best monitor for me and not going to change this monitor option PC needs to run at this monitor speeds to stop bottlenecking if possible. Have 1 monitor, but would like 2 monitors in futute upgrade)
  • PC to withstand new Triple A games in the future at very ultra-settings if possible
  • Have the best of best hardware inside PC
  • Game designing and programing
  • Video editing
What do you think about this and your thoughts on would I benefit if I waited or not? As I am very happy to wait for early 2023 to buy new PC, but don’t want to run into that problem which you said about unavailable. Will the new RTX 4090 be out of stock straight away on launch or even a month after launch?

Thank you.
