In need of a new laptop but the only question remains is, Do I buy it or build it? Which options is cheaper? I will primarily use this to travel around and will use it for the occasional gaming.

Solution
If you mean build as in going to dell.com and choosing the options you want then usually there is a preconfigured options that are on special, thus building is not typically cheaper (and takes longer to ship).
If you mean buy parts to build your own laptop, there is no option like that (as much as we would love there to be standardized laptop parts where we could build and upgrade with ease.

Please describe the procedure and sources you would use to 'build' a laptop.

Read the thread that you yourself posted....

"Can you? Yes. Can you build what people think of as a 'laptop'? Not really.

You can buy a shell, and you'll then have to put in pretty much the exact same motherboard it originally came with. Said motherboard would then have the same chipset, and a very, very limited range of CPU's.

Show me two different laptop shells with all the ports and holes in the same place.

There is no standard spec like ATX for desktops."
