The RX 480 is simply more optimized for DX12 as this is AMDs focus, however very few games are DX12, and even then the 1060 performs on par with the RX 480 most of the time while costing the same.
The 1060 6GB performs 10% better than the RX 480 in 90% of applications, so its probably the best choice here.
If you can afford it OP, get the 1060 6GB for $254 on Newegg, or the 3GB variant for $204.

I'm in NZ so yea......but the 480 is better at dx12, isn't it?

I will not be upgrading for a few years so i need a card with the best longevity

Here in AUS we typically have a 10% import tax right?
But since they have warehouses located domestically both here and in NZ, depending on the manufacturer it often bypasses tax altogether.
The ones that do have GST fees add on like $150 and tell you.
