Buying a generic PSU for my QNIX 2710 True 10 (in the UK)

Hi there:

I have a QNIX 2710 True 10 monitor. The external PSU burned out, I've been struggling to buy a replacement. The first replacement I bought (which was advertised as having the exact same model number - M120500P911 - as the fried PSU) had the wrong connector, the second (advertised as compatible for a QNIX 2710 Evolution 2) connected fine but did not deliver power.

I cannot see a single PSU for sale, anywhere in the UK, that is advertised as being QNIX 2710 True 10 compatible.

This is probably the wrong forum to ask, but...

What are my odds of success if I simply try to buy a generic PSU with the same electrical specs? (A major concern here is the connector; the incompatible one looked identical, but had internal notches that blocked the connection. How to avoid, please?)

Specs of the original PSU
MODEL: M120500P911
INPUT: 100-240V 50/60 Hz 1.2A
Output 12 v 5000mA

Many thanks!

If you bought an adapter and it failed to power up the monitor, it's probably a bad monitor. (The Fall? If it fell off the desk it's probably broken.) Unless you've been sent a bad adapter of course.

Yeah, that's the second one I bought that didn't work. It has a green LED on the adapter, when plugged in and unconnected it's solid green, when connected it only flashes intermittently.

I'm not 100% sure it's the PSU, only 90% sure. I was there for The Fall, the adapter was red hot and smelled like a burnt fuse. If you can help me be sure one way or another I'd be delighted.

One thing to mention - I'm Not Good with this stuff, and fairly certain it shouldn't matter, but: on that eBay auction, the actual specs of the unit are greyed out. Sure it's just a generic picture the seller uses for various models, but: the Input rating on that replacement is 1.5 amp, the original is 1.2 amp.
