Buying a Laptop in 2018 what would you recommend?

I looked around videos reviews and articles about possible laptops i could buy this year. I am still using my laptop from 2015 so i could use an upgrade.

I use a lot of powerful and time consuming software involving processing digital evidence that could take hours or days.

I need something light and powerful that has multi cores to help render evidence quicker.

What would you guys recommend

Why do you need a high performing laptop? Just buy a computer, it is more cost effective

I use a XPS 15, 8th gen convertible quad core laptop at work which handles everything I throw at it (financial trading applications and other fairly resource heavy uses). My 2015 i7 4th gen quad core model however is equally as adept for most similar workloads.

Its surprising that those day long searches are local to the laptop processing though as you'd have a fairly open threat vector compared to a government hosted intranet, with a huge amount of data to churn through.
