Hello! I have a Lenovo Thinkcentre M83 Tower PC that I upgraded with 20gb of DDR3 memory and a GTX 1060 6gb and it has a i5 4570. I want to upgrade from it to a I7 4590k. The manufacturer's website says the I7 4590 is supported and the one I'm looking at is a k (overclockable) and I was wondering if it would still work and be a drop in replacement and if so do you think this eBay listing is a good choice?

Thanks!

Solution
You will want to get the non K 4790. That board may only have bios support, for what CPU options it came with. There is always a bottleneck somewhere, but that CPU and GPU pair up fine together.
I'd avoid getting any second-hand K CPU. You don't know how much it has been abused, or whether it works at all.

What performance gain you're expecting from this upgrade? You'd go from 3.2/3.6 GHz to 3.6/4.0 GHz, which is not a lot, even if you can push the K to 4.0/4.5. OTOH - you will need also upgraded cooling, probably PSU - think again whether you want to invest in 8+ years platform with no future.

And last but not least - are you sure the BIOS has any OC settings?

I'm not planning to over clock it, also I'm using a nh-u9s and a Corsair 550 watt PSU, I'm just trying to get a decent gaming processor upgrade, but I guess the regular CPU would probably be fine if I'm not over clocking it I just saw on websites it had better performance over the regular. Most newer CPUs would need a new motherboard and DDR4 memory which can add up. I'm just trying to find the best price to performance

That processor does not seem to exist. I assume you meant upgrading to the i7-4790K.

Another similar option is the i7-4770K. You can usually find these at a better price on eBay compared to the 4790K. Here is a 4770K for $80 bucks.

Compared to what you have, the 4770K and 4790K have hyper-threading so they can process 8 threads at a time. The i5-4570 can only process 4 threads at a time. This might help smooth out some games.

For $80 it is probably worth giving it a try. These CPUs are end of life. If you buy one and then change your mind and decide to sell it six months or a year from now, there will not be any huge loss.

Oh and two more questions, will there be a bad bottleneck with my GTX 1060 6gb?, and is there a different between the i7 4770 and i7 4770k without overclocking? Sorry for any stupid questions I'm more of a software guy
