First, my apologies if I have somehow hit upon the wrong forum, it has been a while since I've been on here and the rework has changed a few things.
I hope this finds you well, even if you should only take a glance.
Anyhow, without further adieu:
Lamentably I've dropped out of the hardware news ring for some time now, so I'm not totally up on this anymore. I also am unsure regarding the rough balance between dedicated GPUs and piggyback ones. I know on DT the iGPU's are pretty solid, but given his objectives below I can't really be mistaken on that, so I appreciate guidance.
Basically, my brother is in need of a laptop. It would be purchased in (Edmonton, AB) Canada; online via major stores is an option potentially. Naturally, prices listed are Canadian currency. Anyhow, this is what he has in mind, please don't hesitate to ask for any clarification I might be able to offer. Hopefully I've spared the need, though - I do get how annoying it can be, lacking it.
Class: Laptop; I imagine he would tolerate unique form-factors of laptops as a potential externality of getting his desired featureset, but certainly not a priority.
OS: Windows
Software: None needed; I can source that.
Brand: Just looking for something of quality
Refurb: Unless it's *really* compelling for the price, new by OEM would be greatly preferred.
Budget: $ <= $700, ideal; $ < $1000 all-in (so in effect $950 pre-tax)
Known Spec Wants/Needs:
- 15.6" <; prioritize spec vs. his budget, but bigger is better. No smaller, though.
Purpose:
- General use
- Streaming video
- Crusader Kings 3
- Eye to longevity
He's not a heavy user or a power user, he mostly just wants a laptop insofar as a computer is kind of necessary in modern life, and he does have a particular passion for that game. I don't know if an immediate successor is planned, but it would be nice to account for potential future-proofing, as this is a somewhat 'begrudging' purchase for him. By and large, he's a consolite. But Crusader Kings 3 is a majorly important item in the checklist.
For whatever use it is, I'd like to at least meet, if not exceed, the recommended PC spec here: https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/crusader-kings-3/19199
The game is multithreaded, and by the way it works I would probably put more stock on the processor than the GPU (it's largely text based, a lot of the processing is just in battle calculations and AI movements - typical 4X stuff). However, these are probably the better option to trust:
I greatly appreciate any assistance. I've found some interesting deals on Amazon and Dell, but many are refurbs and I don't think he's really about that life.
He's trying to keep it inexpensive, but he fully understands the value in getting something solid. I know future-proofing is something of a myth + hard to predict, but you get the point. The longer it can last him, the better. He's literally worked his present ASUS to death after a decade.
In lieu of direct links, I would still be grateful if anyone can clarify if there's iGPU's roughly at par with the one listed on that site above.
Thank you very much for your kind assistance, and I am grateful for whatever efforts you might exert to render it. Advice or direct links, any perspective, it's all welcomed and appreciated.
