My old R9 270X is damaged and I want to buy just a new graphics card.
Is the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti compatible with my M5A97 R2.0 ?

Yes. The 1050ti is compatible with your board and CPU. Hopefully, you can get it for pretty cheap when GPU prices drop.

Just make sure your display has more than just a VGA (D-Sub 15) input.

Yes it has DVI-D so that is no problem.
